09/27/2008 The Classics of Catholic Spirituality by Peter John Cameron
This book provides summaries of fourteen classics such as Confessions by St. Augustine, The Spiritual Exercises by St. Ignatius of Loyola, Interior Castle by St. Teresa of Avila, and Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales.  Once you have become familiar with these titles, you may be moved to read these works in their entirety.

10/25/2008 Rome Sweet Home by Scott Hahn
The well-known and very popular Catholic couple, Scott and Kimberly Hahn, have been speaking all over North America for the last few years about their conversion to the Catholic Church.  Now these two outstanding Catholic apologists tell in their own words about the incredible spiritual journey that led them to embrace Catholicism.  Scott Hahn was a Presbyterian minister, the top student in his seminary class, a brilliant Scripture scholar, and militantly anti-Catholic...until he reluctantly began to discover that his "enemy" had all the right answers.  Kimberly, also a top-notch theology student in the seminary, is the daughter of a well-known Protestant minister, and went through a tremendous "dark night of the soul" after Scott converted to Catholicism.  Written with simplicity, charity, grace, and wit, the Hahns' deep love and knowledge of Christ and of Scripture is evident and contagious throughout their story.

11/22/2008 The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis
The Problem of Pain answers the universal question, "Why would an all-loving, all-knowing God allow people to experience pain and suffering?"  Master Christian apologist C.S. Lewis asserts that pain is a problem because our finite, human minds selfishly believe that pain-free lives would prove that God loves us.  In truth, by asking for this, we want God to love us less, not more than he does.  Lewis succeeds in lifting the reader from his frame of reference by artfully capitulating these topics into a conversational tone, which makes his assertions easy to swallow and even easier to digest.

12/20/2008 The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene

The first Maronites originated as a grouping of Christians who assembled around the hermit monk Maron about the year 400 A.D. on the mountain slopes of Cyr, near Antioch.  St. Maron's life was one of piety and dedication to the simple life of prayer and meditation; his holiness attracted many persons to join him and to convert others to Christianity.  The Maronite Rite was brought to the United States in the early 1900's with the immigration of many Maronites from Lebanon.  The Maronite Church professes the same faith of the Catholic Church and obeys all the rules and ordinances issued by our Holy Father the Pope.  The Divine Liturgy, is known as the Syriac Liturgy of Antioch, ascribed to St. James the Less, Apostle, and first Bishop of Jerusalem.  The liturgical language used in the Maronite Mass is Syriac-Aramaic, the language spoken by Christ.  The Maronite Rite is the only one in which the words of consecration are traditionally chanted in Aramaic, the same language our Lord spoke at the First Mass of the Last Supper.  Communion is received by the faithful in the mouth, after the priest dips the Host in the Chalice.  (All Catholics of good standing may receive Communion.)  Maronites cultivate profound adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, seeing in the Holy Eucharist the Risen Christ who sent to us the Sanctifying Spirit.  They are also deeply devoted to Mary, The Mother of the Light, hailing her strength and fidelity in the title of "Cedar of Lebanon."
